All the Mr. Spartan contestants showing their love for Ben Trout in the audience
Mr. Spartan was quite the show this year with all the new talents and creativity. The contestants worked hard this year to entertain the crowd and tried hard to get their votes.
The contestants in Mr. Spartan were Austin Myers, Jack Hainline, Stephen Kupferschmid, David Hanck, Jacob Litwiller, David Walker, Jesse Springer, Jess Goujon, and Nate Holt. These contestants put forth a lot of effort to get the results from the crowd that they wanted.
The winner of the contest, David Walker, said, “The crowd was really supportive and that he is glad that they don’t vote on popularity and they vote for the best.”
They practiced 3 days a week (2 mornings at 7:30) for 7 weeks before the competition. Then they practiced at home on their own time to make their performances perfect. The contestants had to sign a contract stating that would follow all the rules and regulations. The contestants have to be willing to meet deadlines and attend practices or a lot of the behind the scenes work cannot be done. Then they have to be appropriate.
They have a very diverse audience, and the contestants must realize this and must put on a performance that reflects well on Olympia High Schools and themselves. When David Walker a.k.a. Mr Spartan was asked how he felt after being crowned, “I felt amazing, more than amazing, if there was a word to describe how I felt I would use it right now.” All of the contestants seemed to have fun even if they did not win. “ I had a good time working with all the guys and messing around a lot. It was a good learning experience. Mrs. Castleman is a very fun teacher to work for, overall the experience was good and I would do it again if I had the chance,” said Austin Myers. Mr. Spartan is a great student event, and is a tradition that should be continued.
