Long ago in small town called McLean, a child was born by the name of Matthew Westerfield. The parents of Matthew always knew he would be a special child from the moment he consumed an entire jar of baby food in one gargantuan bite. Matthew was different, but it was the kind of difference that separates the common man from the legends.
Ten months prior to that special day another child was born in the village of Miner, Shane Harrison. Shane had his fair share of talents. Shane could talk at the normal age, he could crawl at the normal age and he could grow teeth at a normal rate, but Shane hadn’t developed any talents that could put him in the legend status.
As fate would have it these two opposite foes met on a cold April day in 2007 when Matthew secured his spot in history. Shane had come to terms with his talents and was overly confident in his abilities. So, when Matthew challenged him to an eating contest, Shane could not refuse.
Matthew started out by showing off his amazing jaw talents by filling his cheeks with 5 golf balls. After that, he put the entire circumference of a pop can in his chops. After the pre-game show was completed, Shane was fired up to compete in the most lopsided sour gummy worm-eating contest that has ever transpired.
Matthew started off by piling 20 sour gummy worms in his left cheek and then moved on to arrange 20 more in his right cheek. By this point, Shane had managed 1 sour gummy worm in each respective cheek and fatigue had started to set in. Matthew saw how Shane was struggling and tetrised 15 more sour gummy worms in the leftover spaces in his mouth. Shane managed 2 more to a grand total of 4, but that paled in comparison to the 55 that Matthew had remarkable fit into his oral cavity.
Matthew’s spot was now cemented into the archives of history forever. Jeff Freitag said, “I haven’t seen an eater like that since Kobayashi, the Nation’s hotdog eating champ.” Some legends are made through sweat and tears while others are born. Matthew is one example of how a person with a naturally born talent can become man of myth and legend for years to come.
