School Improvement Action Plan

Goal: All students will demonstrate improvement in fluency and comprehension of text in all content areas.

Intervention: Maintain SSR program. 

Purpose:

·         Increase student interest in reading for pleasure, especially male students.

·         Increase fluency and comprehension by reading high-interest books (fiction and nonfiction) that are within students’ reading level

Rationale:  SSR has an estimated effect size of .40 on students’ comprehension (Building Academic Background Knowledge)

     Advisors are responsible for implementation within their classrooms.

     Every Thursday during the school year.

     Continue to build library of high interest books.

Results? What data or documents will indicate closure or success for this action?

     OHS Library Circulation data; Reading Habits Survey; Reading Attitude Likert-Scale Survey 

 

Action Plan # 2: Deliver workshop on the research, purpose, and strategies for success of a Sustained Silent Reading program.

Who? Who is to be involved?

     All teachers who have been newly assigned to the high school since 2004.

Who is responsible for implementation?

     Amanda Hapgood (strategies) and Lance Thurman (research and purpose)

Timeframe? When will each action be conducted?

     Opening institute.
